TYPES OF MOTIVATION FOR LANGUAGE LEARNING.

Learning a foreign language is surely a good opportunity. We live in the era of globalization and people move from one country to another. Leraning a new language means to comunicate and connect ourselves with the others in the world. Imagine the fantastic opportunity of interacting with people, or being able to under stand what people are saying!. But are these the only reasons why I should learn a language different from mine? Reasons can be different. Firstly, people often study a language in order to achieve another goal, such as getting a better job. This is an “instrumental” motivation and the aim is to reach a particolar purpose. There is also an “integrative”motivation, because for some learners, the main motivation for studying a new language is the desire to understand a culture and  a society better. For them, the language is a tool for new relationships and communications.Secondly, travelling becomes easier and cheper when you know a new language. You can save your time and be absolutely independent from the others. Thirdly, it gives you a world of job opportunities. More companies do business in several countries around the world and they need people who are able to talk one or more than one languages. Even in small, local companies, chances are that the ability to speak a second language will set you apart from other applicants. Then it is proved that the study of a foreign language brings cognitive benefits to our brain. People is more creative, more open-minded and with a better memory. Finally, people have the great opportunity to meet new and interesting people. Language helps express our feelings, desires, and connect with other humans around us and forms good relationships. In conclusion, a foreign language helps break barriers and connects human beings. On the contrary, there are people who believe that learning a foreign language has some disadvantages, too, such as the cost of language courses and the time it requires. Learning a foreign language can be expensive, especially if you take college courses or pay for private tutoring. It’s possible to learn a foreign language from books or computer programs, which often cost less, but practicing speaking with others usually makes learning more fun and effective. I think that learning a foreign language is a good opportunity for all and nobody should be denied this opportunity.
