The fashion muse has tragically died, after a secret battle with a rare form of cancer. For over two years, Virgil chose to endure his battle privately, undergoing numerous challenging treatments. The designer, who was best known as artistic director of Louis Vuitton, heroically, continued working.
Virgil was driven by his dedication to his craft and to his mission of creating pathways both in art and design, believing deeply in the power of art and in the future generations.
A true visionary, who changed the fashion industry, opening the doors to a wider cast, in particular to young black creatives. He was in fact the first African to work in a luxury fashion house.
He collaborated with numerous major brands, including Nike and Ikea and in 2018 he was named artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection, with his first collection revealed during Paris fashion week.
