Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Indiana, seventh of ten children. According to various testimonies, the Jackson brothers, in particular Michael, were often mistreated by their father. Michael Jackson had been married twice: the first marriage was to Lisa Marie Presley in May 1994, from whom he divorced in January 1996. In November 1996 he remarried to Deborah Jeanne Rowe. The couple divorced in 1999 and the two remained on good terms. Michael Jackson has three children: Prince Michael Jackson (1997) and Paris Michael Katherine Jackson (1998), that he had by Deborah Rowe; on February 21, 2002, he had his third son, Prince Michael Jackson II, conceived via in vitro fertilization. Jackson never stated the identity of the surrogate mother.
In 1964, he entered the world of entertainment with his older brothers as a member of Jackson 5. The group can boast successful singles such as I Want You Back, ABC, The Love You Save and I’ll Be There, all able to reach the first place in the standings.
In 1971, he began his solo career. It is thanks to Off the Wall (1979) that the foundations were laid to become one of the most popular artists in the world. In 1982 the first huge success of his career arrived, perhaps the song that still today connects the minds of fans to the figure of Michael Jackson, “Thriller”, a song that remained in the top ten for 80 consecutive weeks, beating record after record. For the realization of the video of the song, which lasted 13 minutes, an unreal amount was spent up to that moment, still today very difficult to reach, but for the time even exaggerated, but the result was sensational. In the same year also “Beat it” and “Billie Jean “, two pieces that have rightfully entered the history of world music. On January 29, 1984, at the Grammy Awards, Michael Jackson received eight statuettes for the Thriller album, by then his figure was known worldwide. Not only that, Jackson proved to be an incredible dancer, and in 1983 he launched the moonwalk for the first time, the step that made him famous. In 1985 he participated together with the most popular singers of the moment in the drafting of “We Are the World”, a piece made for the USA for Africa project which obtained a sensational success. 1988 is the year of “Smooth Criminal”, a song that increased his fame, but it is in the 90s that Michael Jackson became one of the most loved people in the world, even if some scandals tried to undermine his image. Songs like “Black or White”, “Stranger in Moscow”, “Earth Song”, “This Time Around” and “Give In to Me” made Michael Jackson the pop icon.
On June 25, 2009, in Los Angeles, Michael Jackson died, a sudden death and still much discussed today (some claim that the singer staged his demise, just as we think of Elvis Presley or Whitney Houston), but the success of his songs continues even after his death. In 2009 the film “This is it” was released, which is still seen today as a sort of testament of the singer who revolutionized the world of world music with his songs and his dance steps, which became legendary.
