UNFORTUNATELY, AFTER SO MANY ATTEMPTS, LITTLE RAYAN DIDN’T MAKE IT
Tuesday, February 1, little Rayan fell into a well in the village of Ighrane. For four days the rescuers worked tirelessly first with excavators and then also by hand to try to save him. Oxygen and water were lowered into the hole but it is not known if the child ever used them.
Rayan was finally extracted from the hole on Saturday at the end of the day: after recovering him, the ambulance took him to hospital in Rabat but he died of injuries sustained during the fall.
Egyptian and Senegalese football players remained silent for a minute on Sunday before starting the Africa Cup of Nations football tournament final. Even those who collaborated in the rescue were very sad, but they did their best. Ryan’s parents received a call from the king of Morocco who wanted to give the most sincere condolences. During the live report, even reporters burst into tears, the emotion was very strong from all over the world. In Saint Peter’s Square, screams suddenly covered the words of Papa Francis who asked the faithful to pray for the little one.
