SAINT’AGATHA LA VETERE, THE FIRST CHURCH OF CATANIA.

The Church of Sant’Agata la Vetere was the first cathedral of Catania from 390 to 1094 and it is
located in the square from which it takes its name in the suburb of San Biagio della Calcarella, also called Roman Amphitheater
The church has been destroyed and rebuilt several times due to Etna’s eruptions and earthquakes that have hitten Catania in the past. In its simplicity, it attracts a lot of tourists every year that can admire its heterogeneity due to different, cultural and aesthetic apports given by the disparate domination alternated in history.
