The Church of Sant’Agata la Vetere was the first cathedral of Catania from 390 to 1094 and it is
located in the square from which it takes its name in the suburb of San Biagio della Calcarella, also called Roman Amphitheater
The church has been destroyed and rebuilt several times due to Etna’s eruptions and earthquakes that have hitten Catania in the past.
