I WANT TO BE A BLOGGER.

We decided to meet one of the most famous bloggers from a small Sussex town. His name is Ronny Hooper, he is 28 years old and he is really a very cheerful person. Of course, our meeting took place… online.

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A BLOGGER?

I decided to be a blogger for joke. In fact, after a motorcycle accident, I was forced to stay at home in front of the screen. My creativity and passion for photography came into play and my travel meetings with the people I met in Australia and in Japan. I started posting photos and telling my stories but I didn’t expect to have so many followers.
Many of them asked me what were the particular foods of those places and so I started doing some research. A friend of mine, who has a Mediterranean cuisine restaurant in Sydney, sends me photos of new recipes that my followers love so much. After three months, I started walking again and I went back to my part-time graphic job but I continue to do this job today.
Meanwhile my daughter Mary Ann was born and with my partner Lola we created a “Sweetly blog page”, dedicated to newpas and new mothers. Lola is really amazing!!!

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES A BLOG NEEDS TO HAVE?

A blogger needs to be a person who wants to tell something to people, in a global perspective. He has to think he can talk to anyone from anywhere in the world. The blogger’s charm is that anyone can do it, and from anywhere, from home, from a coffee shop or from a beach. Those who are interested in sharing their words with the world can do so with a few clicks of a mouse and a keyboard. A blogger has to be fun and creative, not boring at all, he does not have to write documentaries or boring stories but small compelling short stories.

SO, WHAT DOES A BLOGGER DO?

First the blogger must choose a topic to talk about for a long time and must have an operational project. For example, if I want to talk about books or Chinese cuisine, I must already have clear ideas, such as 5 or 6 steps to start. Once the topic is established, the blogger does the necessary research and collects useful materials and information to use in the text, and then begins writing the blogpost. Writing the article is the main stage of a blogger’s work and also the most challenging one. You must understand which audience to address, if they are young or adults, so his language must be adequate. He must write in a fun way and above all he must never ever do this job for the number of followers. If one does not look at the number, he will be more successful.

To complete the article the blogger must then search for and insert visual content such as images, videos, memes, infographics. In some cases the choice of images can become more important than writing itself: this is the case of bloggers on Instagram, who use a form of communication based on images. In fact, the main part of a blogger’s work on Instagram is choosing the photos to post, while writing the caption plays a secondary role.

When the content is ready, the blogger posts the article on the blog. The day and time of publication are not random, but follow a planned calendar to allow the maximum spread of the blog post.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN TYPES OF BLOGS?

Some of the main types of bloggers are:

Travel blogger: writes about travel, exotic destinations and hotels;

Food blogger: writes about dishes and recipes, restaurants and chefs;

Fashion blogger: writes about fashion, outfits, clothes and shopping;

Tech blogger: writes about technology, software and hardware products;

Gaming blogger: writes about video games and consoles;

Beauty blogger: writes about makeup and cosmetic instructions.

WHAT ABOUT A BLOGGER’S PROFESSIONAL OUTLETS?

In most cases the blogger is a freelancer who exploits the blog as a source of income. There are various ways to monetize a blog’s traffic: for example, through affiliate marketing, display advertising, publishing paid posts, creating subscriber e-mail lists.

A professional blogger also finds work in web and digital marketing agencies that manage online communication on behalf of companies and organizations or can collaborate as a Web Writer with other established blogs, newspapers and online magazines.
