With the term gossip today we mean news about the private life of popular people, movie, music or sport stars, published with or without their consent. It sometimes involves the people who have relationships with the “vip” with the purpose of bringing about scandal. But how has gossip evolved over the years?
In previous centuries it was only oral, with men and more often women who gathered and discussed the most popular news of the time. Later on, with the circulation of newspapers, gossip started to spread in that new way and since the 2000s it has had a great diffusion thanks to the Internet and social media.
Most vips owe their popularity to gossip and some cannot do without it! However, gossip also has some negative aspects; browsing the web we can find fake news invented only to attract attention and to earn money but also very dangerous because it often damages their social profile and web reputation.
An example of a person who became famous thanks to gossip is Diletta Leotta. She is frequently the protagonist of many gossip articles. For example, in the last few days she started a love story with a Turkish actor, Can Yaman. Since the beginning of her career, she has always been present in many television programs about football and starting from 2018 she has been working for DAZN, a sports streaming platform. She also took part in some famous Tv shows and was co-host of Sanremo Festival in 2020.
In conclusion, celebrities get more advantages (visibility, popularity) than drawbacks from gossip, and it becomes part of their life, including nuisances and troubles that may arise.
