War Ukraine-Russia

The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022, marking an escalation of the dispute between the two countries that has been ongoing since 2014. The war caused the greatest refugee reception crisis in Europe since the end of World War II. .

The armed intervention was preceded by a Russian military amassing that began in spring 2021, motivated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the basis of the fear of Ukraine’s membership of NATO and followed by military exercises. A few days before the invasion, Russia recognized the independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic, two self-proclaimed states in the Donbass region, within Ukraine’s borders, and on February 21, in violation of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Ukraine’s security guarantees, sent its armed forces there to garrison its territory. The following day, the Federation Council unanimously authorized President Putin to use military force across the border.

Numerous warnings of an impending invasion had already been broadcast in the media starting in October 2021, but Russian senior officials had consistently denied planning an invasion.

This war is truly horrible, an injustice to the Ukrainians who have to abandon their home, their job, their life! Many people died under the rubble of the buildings destroyed by the bombs, many people took refuge in the subways so as not to be killed. These are not the conditions in which a person should live, be forced to flee and take refuge in other neighboring countries. Whoever started this war thinks only of himself and of power, there are no other words to describe a person like that. We must continue to fight for this war to end!
