THE VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES IN AGRIGENTO.

The Valley of the temples is an archeological park in Sicily characterized by an exceptional state of conservation and a series of important Doric temples from the Hellenic period. It corresponds to the ancient  Akragas, a monumental original nucleus of the city of Agrigento. Since 1000 it has been a regional archeological park.The Valley is the most important testimony of the ancient classical culture in Sicily. It includes the temples of the gods, as well as the necropolis area.You can see  The temple of Castor and Pollux (Dioscuri), the temple of Concordia, also built around the fifth century, the temple of Olympian Zeus (Jupiter), which was built to thank the god Zeus on the occasion of the victory in 480 BC of the Agrigentines on the Carthaginians.

Here are the telamons, gigantic statues with human features, the temple of Heracles (Hercules) is the oldest. The temple of Aesculapius was built well outside the ancient city walls; the tomb of Terone, the temple of Vulcano, which dates back to the 5th century. The remains of an archaic temple were found in the foundations.
