The Premier League, also known as the English Premier League, abbreviated EPL, is the top division of the English football league. The Premier was born on February 20, 1992, after the 22 teams affiliated to the First Division decided to leave the Football League for economic reasons.
At the end of the 2019-2020 season, the English Premier League took the 2nd place in the UEFA club competition ranking. In 2020 it ranked 2nd in the world championship ranking drawn up annually by the IFFHS.
The English championship includes a group with home and away matches between the 20 registered teams.
The team that finishes the championship in the lead – in addition to the title of English champion – gets direct qualification for the Champions League, together with the second, third and fourth classified; the fifth can participate in the Europa League. The other two places in this competition go to the winners of the FA Cup and the League Cup.
