RUGBY WAS BORN IN 1823 IN THE ENGLISH TOWN OF RUGBY WHEN A STUDENT, WILLIAM WEBB WILLIS, DURING A FOOTBALL MATCH , TOOK THE BALL IN HIS HANDS AND RAN FORWARD TOWARDS THE EDGE OF THE FIELD , IGNORING THE RULES. VARIANTS OF RUGBY SPREAD RAPIDLY AND WERE PRACTICED IN ENGLISH COLLEGES . IN 1871 THE FIRST RUGBY RULES WERE WRITTEN AND THE RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION WAS FOUNDED . RUGBY APPEARS AT THE OLYMPICS IN PARIS FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND IT IS CURRENTLY PLAYED IN 80 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD . IN THE EIGHTIES THE FIRST WOMEN’S TEAMS WERE BORN. IN ITALY THE ITALIAN RUGBY FEDERATION (FIR) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1928 AND IN 1929 THE FIRST OFFICIAL ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP WAS ORGANIZED, BUT THE SPORT SPREAD AFTER THE SECOND WORLD WAR .
