The house of ideas: MARVEL

I was in New York, while I was walking with my friends, we all thought of going to see the headquarters of Marvel which for the uninitiated is an American publishing house known as “the house of ideas”. It is one of the leading entertainment companies in the world. It was founded by Martin Goodman in 1939, the first 50 years it was known as Atlas Comics, the Marvel denomination dates back to 1961. The history of Marvel began when in 1939 publisher Frank Torpey decided to publish a comic magazine “Motion Picture Funnies Weekly” which was unsuccessful.

However, this initiative aroused interest in another publisher Martin Goodman who was the owner of Western Fiction Publishing which offered US readers sports, recreational, and cinema magazines; and he was also going to propose them in comics, so he contacted Frank Torpey and bought all his material so that he could continue publishing. Then on August 31, 1939, he changed the title to Timely Comics.

A few years later Stanley Lieber, who is a pseudonym of Lee Nats, hence the name that made him famous Stan Lee, who was a nephew of Martin Goodman, started working for him first as a writer. Over time he became director of the company and changed his name to Atlas Comics and then in 1961 to Marvel Comics. It was also the period in which together with Jack Kirby, he created most of the characters that populate the Marvel universe.

On August 31, 2009, The Walt Disney Company decides to make a deal with Marvel for about $ 4 billion to make films together; but only in May 2011 did they start making films under the Disney Pixar Present brand. With the creation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), 26 films have been released and 12 more are in various stages of development, with a worldwide grossing of $ 23.6 billion is the most profitable franchise in film history. The most-watched movie in the world was AVENGERS ENDGAME  because these days it has been surpassed again by Avatar.

‘The house of ideas’ will make us dream for many more years.
