In the film “WONDER” the protagonist is a 10 years-old boy named Auggie who lives in New York. He was born with a facial deformity. The family teaches him at home, but after a period at home his family decides to enroll him in a private school. At school he is made fun by his classmates.

One day he dresses as a monster at school during the Halloween party, but nobody knew that he was Auggie and insulted him comparing him to Auggie. As a consequence of this, a boy called Julian is expelled from the school for bullying.

Bullying is so popular among young people and it is a serious problem. It may happen at school or at home. There are various types of bullying: insulting ,exclusion from a group, scaring with text messages (cyberbulling).

Bullying is the same of violence. There are so  many reasons why it happens, for example, for the different colour of skin, of build or even  for a foreign name. Bullying causes anxiety and depression or mental health problems to the victim.

The question is ”Who is the bully?”. Certainly the bully is usually the weakest person or the most  jealous person or a group of people who want to demonstrate to be stronger than their peers. Maybe the bully wants to become famous and popular. Obviously they don’t understand how wrong is their behaviour.

What can you do?

Everyone must remember that the problem is the bully. Ignoring is the best way to cope with it or talking to adults, parents or teachers. It is better to write if you can’t talk about it.

The best warning is to have more self-esteem and courage and never lose confidence.

Be safe!
