The BEATLES

The Beatles are one of the most popular British pop groups of all time.

The band began in 1957 when John Lennon invited Paul Mc Cartney to play in his band ‘the Quarrymen’! Then Ringo Starr and George Harrison joined the band and they became ‘the Beatles’. Together they were extremely successful in the UK and also abroad, selling millions of records. During their concerts many young people even fainted; they went crazy for their music!

Their most popular tunes include: Yesterday, Let it be, Hey Jude, In my life, A day in the life, Twist and Shout.

Lennon died in 1980 after being shot by a fan and Harrison died of cancer in 2001. Today their influence on music is still very important. Did you know? Penny Lane is a song by the beatles and is also the name of the street in Liverpool near where Lennon and Mc Cartney lived.
