Computers and software are playing a more and more important role in our society not only for communicating among people. Computers, the Internet and technology in general are also essential for many jobs. Therefore, it is necessary that the school as an institution reflects on how to spend its resources in technology to prepare students for the future.
On the one hand, spending more on computers than on textbooks would offers us more opportunities to learn how to use a PC and or to improve the abilities to work with the Internet and the software commonly requested by the world of work. It is, therefore, an opportunity of professional growth. Using a computer is also more enjoyable than using a textbook. Enterprises invest many resources in software developing and nowadays lots of apps can be downloaded from online stores to help students improve their abilities through games (and everybody who is involved in the learning process knows how important this way of learning is).
I think that it is also important that school continue to use textbooks because, unlike computers, they help students focus on the subjects they are studying. Moreover, computers are more expensive than textbooks, so not all can invest in them. Therefore, it is a choice that should ponder well.
To conclude, although there could be many advantages from investing in computers, software and new technologies, my point of view is that this is a very important choice, which depends on many factors, and which must take into account everyone’s needs.
