Hello, my name’s Salvatore and I like animals. Today I want to talk to you about musk shrews.
It’s a species that belongs to the Soricidae family, widespread in the Palearctic and Eastern Ecozone.
You can ask me : what does it look like?
Its fur is short, dense and velvety. It is a terrestrial, nocturnal and solitary species, intolerant to its fellow men. The muzzle is long, pointed and covered with numerous whiskers, the eyes are very small. The ears are short and rounded. The tail is slightly longer than half of the head and body.
The dorsal parts are greyish-brown, while the ventral parts are paler, without a clear distinction along the flanks.
It eats insects, but also seeds, fruit and food waste. Occasionally it attacks large frogs and snakes even up to 46 cm long.
The reproductive periods are two: the first is close to the rainy season between April and June while the second is between August and October. Life expectancy in captivity varies between 1.5 and 2.5 years.
