The 80-year-old President Sergio Mattarella has always been a guide for the Italians. When the time of the new elections came, we were all very sad to say goodbye to a true and faithful President who had found a place in our hearts.
Anyway, over the past few weeks, once more he has demonstrated how much he loves our country, agreeing to serve a second seven-year term and saving Italy’s governing coalition. He was re-elected president of Italy on January 29th, although at the end of his first term he had declared he didn’t want a new term.
The final decision was almost forced on party leaders, who cast 387 votes for Mr Mattarella in the penultimate ballot, and, in the end, it was backed by all the parties to avoid the collapse of the coalition.
At the end of his first term, Mattarella had played the role of an excellent President of the Republic and was considered as an example for the future generations. During the period of the pandemic, Mattarella managed to reassure and encourage all the Italian people. In his last meeting before he was re-elected, he had thanked the Italian people for never making him feel alone.
In his first term, Mr Mattarella was a firm and decisive President of the Republic for our country, always working hard for the Italian people and for political stability. I think he will definitely continue to be like that in the future and I wish him good luck!
