Sea Shepherd, founded in 1977 by Captain Paul Watson, a famous leader in environmental issues in Vancouver, Canada, is an international organization that safeguards the species that live in the world’s oceans. It also investigates, documents and acts when illegal fishing is done.
Here is a quote from Captain Paul “I have been given the honor of serving the whales, dolphins, seals and all other creatures on this Planet. Their beauty, intelligence, strength and spirit inspired me. These beings talked to me, touched me, and I was rewarded with the friendship of many members of different species. If the whales can survive and thrive, if the seals continue to live and reproduce, and if I can help ensure their future prosperity, then I can be eternally happy. “
The job of the Sea Shepherd Council of Sages is to give competent advice. Sea Shepherd consultants are experts in many areas and there are so many points of view. These different points of view make it possible to avoid mistakes that could be made in areas where neither the Captain nor the crews of the ships were familiar.
Since 1977, several vessels have helped Sea Shepherd to protect and defend marine life around the world. “We are proud to present the current fleet and to provide historical information on the ships that preceded it, some of which no longer float”.
Today, there are over 20 countries working together on direct action campaigns around the world. In 2013 Sea Shepherd Global was founded in Amsterdam to coordinate communications for the Sea Shepherd fleet on campaigns outside the United States.
