Today I would like to talk about Paolo Borsellino. He was Giovanni Falcone’s friend and colleague. Paolo Borsellino was born in Palermo on January 19, 1940 and grew up in the Kalsa district together with Giovanni Falcone and Tommaso Buscetta. He graduated in law on 27 June 1962 at the age of 22 and a year later passed the competition to enter the judiciary and became praetor first in Mazara del Vallo, then in Monreale where Emanuele Basile worked together and in 1975 he was transferred to Palermo, under the guidance of the instructor Rocco Chinnici. In 1980 he saw the arrest of the first six mafiosi thanks to the investigation of him and Basile only that in this same year Basile died and for Paolo Borsellino and his family the period began together with the escort. In this same year the Anti-Mafia Pool was built under the leadership of Chinnici where he was killed in July of the same year.
Borsellino began to work with Giovanni Falcone, both righteous men who began the great fight against the mafia together, in fact they are transferred to the guesthouse of the Asinara prison where they begin to write the preliminary investigation for the maxi trial. Then they were both transferred to different countries. On 19 July 1992, after having lunch with his family, Paolo Borsellino goes to via D’amelio where his mother lives, as soon as they arrived they lost their lives due to a bomb in a Fiat 126 he, Emanuela Loi, Agostino Catalano , Vincenzo Li Muli, Walter Eddie Cosina and Claudio Traia, the only survivor is Antonio Vullo. For this massacre, the Supreme Court confirmed the life sentences of many mafia members such as Totò Riina, Giuseppe Calascibetta and many others.
Such men will never be forgotten!
