Mario Draghi

Mario Draghi was born on 3 September 1947 in Rome. He is 74 years old. Draghi is married to Maria Serenella Cappello (born on 23 July 1947 in Padua), who is an expert in English literature. They have two sons: Federica and Giacomo.

He is an Italian economist, banker, academic and civil servant who has been the Prime Minister of Italy since 13 February 2021. He previously served as President of the European Central Bank (ECB) from 2011 until 2019. Draghi was also Chair of the Financial Stability Board from 2009 to 2011 and Governor of the Bank of Italy from 2006 to 2011.

On 3 February 2021, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Draghi was invited by Italian President Sergio Mattarella to form a government of national unity, following the resignation of the former Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte. On 12 February, Draghi unveiled the members of his Cabinet, which included representatives from all of the above political parties, including 9 ministers from the outgoing cabinet, as well as independent technocrats. The following day, Draghi was sworn in as Prime Minister. Draghi’s cabinet was described as a national unity government by numerous news articles in the wake of its announcement.

I am writing this news article because at the moment there is a lot of talk about his political actions. He might also become the next president of the Italian Republic.
