Salvatore Luciano was born in Italy in the village of Lercara Friddi in Sicily on November 24,1897. When he was ten he and his family immigrated to the U.S.A, in New York into a crime ridden lower East side. In 1929, during his rise to power he received a hard attack: his rivals beat him, slit his troat but he miracoulosly survived and he became «LUCKY» for this reason.
He organized a big meeting of AMERICA’S ITALIAN CRIME BOSSES which included him and the four NEW YORK CITY GANGS. He revolutionized the MAFIA’S STRUCTURE and created THE MODERN AMERICAN MAFIA based on racket of drugs, prostitution and army. In 1935 the government condamned him with a sentence of 30 years but during second world war the Navy Force offered him a reduction for information about italian navy (Luciano gave secret support to Mussolini).
For this reason American government deported Luciano to Italy, in exile, where he continued his criminal activity. He died on 1962.
