Who is the villain in Robin Hood stories? King John, that’s the answer! Yes, because King John asked English people for lots of taxes , but people were very poor. There was a civil war, the rebels won the war and he king signed a document called Magna Carta. This was the start of modern British law!
Another villain was King Richard III: when Edward IV died, in 1483, his brother Richard promised to protect Edward’s young son. But Richard didn’t do this. He put his nephew in prison in the tower of London . Then the boy disappeared and Richard became king. Lots of people were shocked and a war started against king Richard. He died at the bottle of Bosworth and was buried him in Leicester. In 2012 archeologists found Richard’s body under a car park!
Charles I believed that his power came from God, so he didn’t have to listen to the people; he also spent lots of the Country’s money . Parliament didn’t like this , so there was a civil war. Half of the Country fought for the king and the other half fought for parliament. For about ten years Britain was a republic but in 1600 the people wanted a new monarch, so Charles I’s son became king as Charles II.
But the worst villain, in my opinion, was… (DRUMROLL ) … Queen Mary! She was the oldest daughter of Henry VIII. Mary was a Catholic but England was now a protestant Country. Mary hated the protestant religion and she wasn’t popular. She tortured and killed hundreds of protestants; the people hated her and they called her “Bloody Mary!
