FALSE PROFESSIONALISM

The journalist of the “Corriere della Sera”, Diana Romersi, in her article of 5 April 2002, highlights a much bigger problem than the one described. The case is that of a six-year-old autistic child rejected by teachers and in particular by the supporting teacher. In my reasoning, I want to step back in relation to the facts. In Italy, every teacher must have a degree in which he is “erudite” and then must pass a qualification examination so that “the ability” of the person to carry out this particular work activity is verified. I don’t know if this exam can verify the soul of aspiring teachers or perhaps this depends on the sensitivity of the examiner. The second premise concerns the fact that the teacher in support, in Italian schools, is the specialized figure who takes care of children that have specific physical or learning difficulties. Did the failure of the school, in this case, depend on the error of an examiner? I don’t want to distribute faults lightly. Maybe, the examined person hides what he has inside. But the truth comes out in the impact with reality. People address authorities to claim rights, but is that enough? I don’t think so, the problem to be solved, for cases like these, is more underlying ,it concerns individual consciences, that is to educate.
