EcoJump Messina Basket School faces the most important game of its season on Sunday, taking on Scandone Avellino in the decisive Game 3 of the first round of the Serie B Interregional playoffs.
The winner advances, while the loser sees its season come to an end. After the memorable victory at the PalaTracuzzi, the yellow-and-red squad will attempt another upset against one of the championship favorites. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Following Wednesday’s outstanding home win, Messina forced the series to a decisive third game after leveling the playoff matchup against one of the strongest teams in the competition. Head Coach Pippo Sidoti said: “We found the mental strength required for games like these. It was not only about heart and determination—without quality basketball you cannot beat a team like Avellino. In my opinion they are the strongest team across both groups, with a deep and complete roster.” Sidoti also praised his players’ development throughout the season: “The team has improved enormously in every aspect. At the beginning of the season the playoffs seemed out of reach, but week after week, thanks also to our home court and our fans, we earned this opportunity. Now we travel to Avellino determined to play our game and give everything we have.” General Manager Bruno Donia added: “Avellino was built to win the championship, with a deep and experienced roster. However, we have exceeded every expectation.
