COVID-19, acronym of the English CoronaVIrus Disease 19, also known as SARS-CoV-2 acute respiratory disease or coronavirus disease 2019, is an infectious respiratory disease caused by the virus called SARS-CoV-2 belonging to the coronavirus family . The first cases were found in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of February 2, 2021, its apparent lethality rate is 2.16%.

The average incubation period is 5.1 days . An isolation period of 14 days has been indicated from possible exposure to a suspected or confirmed case. During the incubation period one is contagious, subsequently symptoms may appear. The virus is transmitted by air, very often through the respiratory droplets. To limit their transmission, precautions must be taken, such as maintaining an interpersonal distance of at least 1.5 meters and maintaining correct behavior in terms of personal hygiene (periodically washing and disinfecting hands, sneezing or coughing into a handkerchief or in the crook of the elbow , wear masks and gloves) and environmental (often renew the air indoors by opening windows and keep the rooms very clean).
