A school trip to Sila

After three years of suspension of school trips due to covid-19, this year I finally went on a trip with my school.

We were in Calabria, in Camigliatello Silano, a small mountain town in the Sila mountains for three days from 18 to 20 May.

We left on Wednesday 18 at 6 in the morning and after about 5 hours by bus we arrived at Silaavventura, a park equipped with paths among the trees of various levels and a picnic area where we can have lunch and stay in company. I climbed everywhere and had a lot of fun. In the late afternoon we went to the hotel.

The next day we did a 3-hour trek in the protected natural reserve of the Cupone to admire wild plants and animals such as the Silan wolf. In the afternoon we made the excursion to Lake Cecita, where we took a walk along the banks.

On the last day we visited a dairy where they showed us the making of cheese and mozzarella. After lunch we left to go home and we arrived in the evening.

It was a great experience, it was the first time I slept away from home without my family, my first trip alone. Spending the days in the company of my classmates and other school pupils was fun, it allowed me to make new friends and strengthen others. We laughed, joked, played, sang and danced together. It was an important moment of personal growth and sharing and socialization among us students and with teachers. The trip was also a moment of learning about school issues outside the classroom, much more stimulating for us students who were able to get to know the environment in which we live directly through direct contact with nature.

For me it was also a real test of independence: at home I am very pampered by my parents who do everything for me, there I was alone and I understood that I can always do it. I can be independent, mature and sensible and manage myself.

Now I look forward to leaving next year …
