What we don’t see behind Companies

We all know Amazon, one of the biggest Electronic Commerce Company, that we always use to buy everything we need. It’s very easy to use it: we search for something, we buy it, in a few days we receive our package at home. And there is more: we are also able to track our package, so that we can know in every moment where it is and when we’ll receive it. Amazon is also one of the companies that offers job to millions of workers, creating great work opportunities to a large part of the world population. But there is more behind Amazon, a reality that we are not allowed to see and that affects employees’ mental health.

In fact, Amazon, just like all the main companies and societies, makes extensive use of monitoring system. It means that the employers track individuals inside and outside the workplace, capture their behaviour and store it in permanent records. Employees know that their bosses know their movements in every moment; they know whether they take breaks or need some rest and the worst part is that bosses can use this information as a weapon against employees, that can get fired or less paid depending on employers’ will. This is a huge violation of employees’ privacy and rights, not to mention the fact that this abuse of tracking system causes psychological stress and damages workers’ mental health. The pressure that is put on the employees makes them anxious, provoking the fear of not conforming with the standards, which leads to fatigue and exhaustion. But how is this possible? Why does nobody intervene on behalf of the employees? The main problem is that the laws that are supposed to safeguard workers’ rights are too outdated and do not meet the current state of technology. That is why it’s necessary that the institutions in charge create new and modern laws, in line with the development of technology, so that employees’ rights could be guaranteed and their freedom will not be limited ever again. And it is also important to remember, whenever we use Amazon or other similar companies, all the abuses and the violations of rights that are carried out against the workers.
