From 19 to 25 April 2021 there was the Civic Week “We as citizens. We as a people “, which was dedicated to promoting civic education for the younger generations.
This Civic Week was organized on the occasion of the Liberation Day but also of two anniversaries: the 160th anniversary of the Unification of Italy and the 75th anniversary of the Republic.
Civic Week was “created” because we are not just inhabitants. We are citizens. But we are not just citizens. We are also the people.
During this week Luca Attanasio was remembered since he was recognized by all as an “exemplary citizen” because his choices and his behavior were exemplary.
The teaching of civic education is the opportunity we can have to restart the democratic literacy of our country. To redefine the relationship between the self and the us, between the individual and the evolving society, between the private and the public, between personal interest and the common good. To rebuild this relationship of trust that has been lost between citizens and institutions.
Thus Flavio Lotti, Coordinator of the Peace Table presented “The Week of Civic Education”. During the Civic Week it has been possible to do many activities that have been organized in at least 225 cities in 77 provinces of all Italian regions. It was encouraged by the President of the Senate of the Republic, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, the Minister of Education and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The following question was asked: “what do you think of the Parliament’s decision to introduce civic education?”.
The majority replied with “I agree”, while the minority replied with “it seems a good idea”.
Thanks to the questions:
“What does it mean to be a citizen?”
What does it mean to be a people? “
“What would you like to do during civics hours?”
plans are being made for the next school year.
Luca Attanasio is looking to improve the social system.
