Who are women? What is their role in the world?
In many parts of the world too many freedoms are limited to women and blames are attributes that they do not have. What must first change is in fact the perception of women towards themselves Rita Levi Montalcini therefore spoke of rebellion, of battles to get out of the grey area of habit and resignation.
But despite everything ours remains a male chauvinist world.
In our society, men and women do not have equal rights, they do not have equal opportunities, they do not have equal treatment.
Today violence against women is more and more widespread, especially after the first wave of COVID-19 and many more women are subjected to violence. Cruelty against women affects 1 in 3 women worldwide. The United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women (1993) defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence which causes or is likely to cause physical harm, sexual or psychological to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether it occurs in public or private life”.
What can we do? It is important to talk about this problem starting right at school. Our school joined the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25th November by offering us a video made by the students of the institute entitled “Occupied place”. It was about stories of women victims of violence. Finally, the municipality of our town mobilized by proposing a theatrical performance involving women of various ethnic groups.
These experiences have been very heart-warming for us because we have realized how a lot of women suffer from that.
