Matteo Berrettini was born on the 12April 1996 in Rome. His tennis career began at the age of 7, after his brother Jacopo, a tennis player too, took the first tennis lessons.
He trained at the “Circolo Cannottieri Aniene” in Rome with his coach Vincenzo Santopadre. When he was 17 he played his first tennis match although he lost. Besides, at 21 Matteo joined an important tournament in Rome called “Rome BNL”.
During 2018 he continues to grow and he ranks in the top 100 of the ATP ranking. And after two years Matteo ranks in top 30.
Everyone says that Matteo is very powerful with his forehand and his serve that forces 180 km/h: as a matter of fact he was nicknamed “The Hammer”
In 2020 during the Covid 19, he took part in 4 tournaments and he arrived in top 10.
A big victory of Matteo is “Quenn’s ATP 500”, beating the English tennis player Norrie. This is his first ATP trophy.
Matteo Berrettini is very famous in all world because he arrived in the final of Wimbledon, one of the four Grand Slam, but he lost because he played with Novak Djokovic, the number one in the world.
Last month Matteo played at the Australian Open and he arrived at the semifinal although he lost with Rafael Nadal. But it’s an important record because Matteo is the only Italian tennis player that reached the semifinal in all the Grand Slams.
Recently we have seen Matteo at the Music Festival in Sanremo with his amazing family.
At the end I think that Matteo is writing the history of Italian tennis and I’m very proud of him.
