The ancient fortress, with its guns, offers to visitors a step back in time and discover the island’s rich culture. One of the highlights is the Cathedral of St. Mary, a beautiful church with a big staircase, built in 1697 in baroque stile. Next to the Cathedral, you can also visit the Old Prison, where prisoners once were locked up. On the top of the fortress, there are some guns as reminders of the Citadel’s defensive role. Here you can also visit the famous “ditch” of Gozo surrounded by big garden. Moreover into the Citadel, a Bronze Model offers a detailed view of the site’s structure and the access to the Citadel is free, so you can wander through the narrow lanes and admire the ancient walls.
