Today, 22 April 2022, marks the 52nd World Earth Day, the most significant event in the world dedicated to the protection of the environment and, more generally, of our planet.
Launched in 1970 in the United States, Earth Day has grown into a real movement, involving over a billion people from almost 200 countries every year.
“Invest in our planet” is this year’s slogan, a warm invitation from the organisers to governments, companies and each and every one of us. Because even the personal choices we make in our everyday lives can play an important role in the future of the planet, our own well-being and that of the other living organisms that populate it, plants and other animals.
“Now is the time to change everything: the business climate, the political climate and the way we act on climate. Now is the time for unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our health, our families, our livelihoods. Together, we must invest in our planet,” write the organisers of Earth Day 2022, making it clear that it is crucial to act now, now, against climate change. According to environmentalists, there is still time for a “prosperous and sustainable” future, but the more we turn our heads away from the problems, the greater the risk of reaching a point of no return. Action that also means courage, innovation and sustainability in a fair way.
