NEW DANGER: MONKEYPOX

Adnkronos is an Italian multi-channel news and communication agency based in Rome. It was born from the merger in 1963 of two news agencies: Kronos (founded in 1951 by Adolfo Annesi) and AdN (“Agenzia di Notizie”, born in 1959 on the initiative of Felice Fulchignoni). Giuseppe Pasquale Marra, known as Pippo (Castelsilano), Italian journalist and publisher, is the owner and director of AdnKronos.

Among the articles, there is one in particular which intrigued me, entitled “Monkeypox, first case in Lombardy” and published on 24\05\2022 at 20:19. It is about, in fact, the first case of monkeypox in Lombardy and the confirmation of the infection is declared by the Sacco hospital in Milan, the national reference center for infectious disease emergencies. Apparently the strain isn’t autochthonous, but comes from abroad and could be related to the outbreaks which are occurring in other European countries such as Germany, Portugal and Spain. As per procedure, contact tracing was immediately activated and any close contacts are being reconstructed. Again according to what is learned, the person would have returned from a trip and is currently under observation.

As soon as I read this article, I immediately wanted to talk about it, because it made me think of the pandemic period that we are still going through today, after more than two years, due to Covid-19.
