In the last months, despite the emergency caused by Corona virus, American people elected a new president : Joe Biden.
We all know what happened on the 6th of January 2021 in the U.S.A.: a group of Trump’s supporters attacked Capitol Hill because they were convinced that the election was stolen. Trump didn’t take a position immediately . They are known as “Proud Boys”. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is a very important public man (he is a famous actor and he was the Governor of California) published a video in which he commented on the events of that day and also what happened. The 73- year-old offered a personal story he’d never shared publicly before because it was such a painful memory. It’s very interesting his association with “The night of Broken Glass”. In his opinion ,Proud Boys are the same as Nazis . That night, Nazis destroyed” the lives” of Jewish people . They attacked their stores, burnt their Synagogues and also they killed a lot of them. They considered Jewish people the cause of the economic crisis of Germany and according to them, expelling the Jews was the solution to the problem…but it wasn’t their fault. And Proud Boys? They attacked the symbol of American democracy. Schwarzenegger then connected Trump’s lies to the ones told by Nazis, saying “President Trump sought to overturn the results of an election. He sought a coup by misleading people with lies”. He said that they didn’t destroy only windows and doors and these actions are a consequence of selfishness and cynicism. Five people died and a lot of people have been injured. This was not human and it wasn’t correct to call it “patriotism”, because they tried to defend their president and not their country. Schwarzenegger called Trump ” a failed leader, “ the worst president ever”. Then, he associated American democracy to a sword: “the more is tempered, the stronger it becomes” and “America democracy has been tempered by wars, insurrections and injustices”. Finally, Schwarzenegger hopes that the new president Biden will bring prosperity and peace to U.S.A, because it’s the country of opportunities, good values and it’s very sad to associate U.S.A. with these extreme events. So that attack shocked the modern world but Schwarzenegger offered a plea for people of all political affiliations to come together and” put our democracy first”. And he concluded his speech with a warning to terrorists( and not only domestic) and their sympathizers. “To those who think they can overturn the United States Constitution, know this” : “YOU NEVER WIN”
