Mattarella: his second time as President of the Italian Republic

It had been guessed for days. And so it was. Sergio Mattarella, like his predecessor Giorgio Napolitano, is the second President in the history of the Italian Republic to be re-elected to the Quirinal for the second time.
After the seventh failed vote and at least a dozen completely vain candidacies, such as those of the “first woman in the Quirinal”, despite having strongly reiterated his no to an encore, the political leaders have asked for another sacrifice from the outgoing Head of State.
A scenario Sergio Mattarella had not considered at all. Evidence of this is his immediate move to a new rented house in Rome to get away from his presidential residence for definitely.
It was Mattarella himself, on 12 May, who anticipated, as he said: ‘I am an old man, in eight years I will be able to rest!”. But despite this, during the eighth vote on 29 January 2022, a second political paralysis like that one of 2013, led to the re-election of the outgoing President Sergio Mattarella, who is confirmed as the twelfth President of the Italian Republic with 759 votes.
We already know his great value from both a human and a professional point of view. That’s why the parliamentarians called to vote, although aware, as already stated, of the enormous sacrifice required, have acted for the good and for the upper interest of the country, the same interest that Mattarella has always and constantly professed in the seven years of his very high mandate.
