During these days at Quirinale Palace they’re voting for the next President of Italy but so far no one has reached the right amount of votes to get the office. And many preferences are going to Mattarella again. Why is he so special? let’s get into his biography.
Sergio Mattarella is a politician, born in Palermo on July 23, 1941. Graduated in law in Rome with full marks and honors he then taught parliamentary law at the University of Palermo until 1983, elected deputy for Christian Democracy in 1983 in the western Sicily district, he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies until 2008. From July 1987 to July 1989 he was minister of relations with the parliament.
Finally, he was elected the twelfth president of the republic on January 31, 2015, and will finish being so on February 7, 2022, giving space to someone else. Sergio Mattarella had a brother named Piersanti Mattarella who was a politician killed by the mafia; on that day Sergio and his brother were together and the first to try to rescue his brother was Sergio!
Mattarella’s last speech was on December 31, 2021. A speech that was above all a thank you to Italy and to the Italians, to some categories, for these seven years of his term of office. The core was on the pandemic and obviously on vaccines, on what lies ahead.
We will miss Sergio, a fantastic president and I hope that the next one will be at his height!
