Easter, or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian and cultural holiday commemorating Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, described in the New Testament.
Most Christians refer to the week before Easter as Holy Week, which in Western Christianity refers to the days of the Easter Triduum including Holy Thursday , which commemorates the washing of the feet and the Last Dinner , as well as Good Friday , which commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus. In Eastern Christianity , the same days and events are commemorated with the names of the days all beginning with “Holy” or “Holy and Great”.
In Eastern Christianity, the Easter season also ends with Pentecost, but the farewell of the Feast of Easter is on the 39th day, the day before the Feast of the Ascension.
Easter and the relative festivities don’t fall on a fixed date; its date is calculated on the basis of a lunisolar calendar (solar year with several lunar phases) similar to the Hebrew calendar . The date varies from year to year according to the lunar cycles.
Easter customs vary in the Christian world and include dawn services , midnight vigils, exclamations and exchanges of Easter greetings , church clipping (England), decorations , and common Easter egg breaking.
What are thh symbols? The Easter lily is a symbol of the resurrection in Western Christianity, traditionally decorates the presbytery area of the architectural choirs on this day and for the rest of the Easter season . Additional customs that have been associated with Easter and are observed by both Christians and some non-Christians include the Easter parades , common dances (Eastern Europe), the Easter bunny and egg hunt . There are also traditional Easter foods which vary by region and culture. Happy Easter!
