DR JAMES NAISMITH AND THE INVENTION OF BASKETBALL.

BASKETBALL  IS A TEAM SPORT INVENTED  BY  JAMES NAISMITH IN THE UNITED STATES, WHERE IT IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE NATIONAL SPORTS.  IT IS VERY POPULAR IN EUROPE AND SOUTH AMERICA TOO.  IN 1891 JAMES NAISMITH WAS WORKING AS A TEACHER AT A YMCA SPORTS CENTER IN SPRINGFIELD . HE WAS ASKED TO LOOK FOR SOMETHING THAT COULD KEEP BASEBALL AND  FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN TRAINING DURING THE WINTER SEASON AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO BORING GYMNASTICS EXERCISES . THEN, INSPIRED BY A GAME HE PLAYED WHEN HE WAS  A CHILD , HE GAVE BIRTH TO BASKETBALL . ACCORDING TO NAISMITH THIS SPORT CONSISTS OF ONLY 13 RULES , TWO WICKER BASKETS HANGING AT THE ENDS OF THE GYM AND TWO TEAMS OF NINE PLAYERS EACH .ON JANUARY 15th, 1892 Dr NAISMITH PUBLISHED THE RULES OF THE GAME : IT IS THE OFFICIAL BIRTH  DATE OF BASKET .THE FIRST MATCH IN  THE  HISTORY OF BASKET  ENDED 1 TO 0 . IN THE 1920s THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF BASKETBALL TEAMS IN THE UNITED STATES PLAYING PROFESSIONALLY. AT THE END OF THE 1930S NAISMITH WAS ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF THE BIRTH OF THE FIRST PROFESSIONAL LEAGUES . IT WAS ADDED TO THE OLYMPIC PROGRAM AT THE 1936 BERLIN SUMMER OLYMPICS AND ON THAT OCCASION , NAISMITH GOT THE GOLD MEDAL FOR THE UNITED STATES DEFEATING CANADA IN THE FINAL MATCH.
