A SPECIAL AFTERNOON WITH MARGHERITA HACK.

We were in the astronomical laboratory in Florence when we turned around and saw Margherita Hack. We asked her where the room with the photos of the greatest astronomers was, when we saw her photo and we got to know her story by asking her some questions about her life.

When and where were you born?

Margherita Hack: I was born on June 12, in 1922 in a beautiful city, Florence. You will not believe it but it happened that the street where I was born was called Via Centostelle.

What did your parents think of your job?

Margherita Hack: My parents have always supported me even in times of difficulty, without their help I would never have succeeded.

Why did you decide to become an astronomer?

Margherita Hack: I decided to become an astronomer because even as a child it was a job that I was very passionate about, when I looked at the stars I was excited and every day I dreamed that one day I would be able to go there or at least look at them closely.

If you hadn’t been an astronomer what would you have done in your life?

Margherita Hack: If I hadn’t been an astronomer, I would have found some other job or pastime, for example I would have probably invented the brand Apple.

Describe your life in one sentence

Margherita Hack: We learn to tolerate and appreciate differences.

Thank you for taking your time and answering our questions!
