The Met Gala is a charity gala held on the first Monday of May to raise money for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The theme of the 2022 edition of the Met Gala is “gilded glamor”, which traditionally recalls the Costume Institute exhibition which this year is dedicated to American fashion.
Organized and chaired since 1995 by Anna Wintour, it consists of a dinner organized by the Costume Institute, which is both the organizer and the beneficiary of the funds raised from the participations. In fact, the evening is the main source of annual funding for the museum’s exhibitions, publications and operations.
Among the guests of the event there are also the Italians Chiara Ferragni and Fedez. In 2022, the charity party for the Institute of Fashion will be chaired by actors Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The list of those present is usually made known right behind the dinner that takes place behind closed doors and where a table can cost up to 500 thousand dollars.
With the evocative title Gilded Glamor, this year’s edition headed by Black Lively (the godmother of the evening, dressed Atelier Versace) referred to that historical period of America defined precisely Gilded Glamor: that is the 80s and 90s of the 800 , when the high society of New York defended the status quo by opposing the arrival of the new rich brought by the wave of well-being and industrialization of the country.
